Coronavirus: Build Your Immune System

COVID-19 or more commonly called coronavirus is on the move and here is how you can prepare.


· Remember to frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer can be used if don’t have access to soap and water.

· Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes, especially in public areas and with unwashed hands.

· Stay home if you are sick.

· Disinfect surfaces and frequently used objects in your home. Tea tree oil has antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. Make a multipurpose cleaner by adding 10-15 drops of tea tree oil to 2 cups of hot water and ½ cup of vinegar.


Build Your Immune System Naturally with:


· Elderberry has been shown to inhibit virus reproduction. Studies have shown Sambucus Nigra, elderberry, has antiviral and antimicrobial properties, inhibits the activity of human respiratory bacterial pathogens and Influenza A and B, and has anti-inflammatory properties.


· Vitamin C supports the entire immune system. Vitamin C can help prevent and treat respiratory and systemic infections.


· Vitamin D is a regulator of T cells. T cells are a type of white blood cell that fights infections.


· Garlic traditionally is used to promote cardiovascular health, but it also has anti-microbial effects. Allicin in garlic has antibacterial and antifungal properties. One study suggests garlic could prevent and treat the common cold.


· Goldenseal has antifungal and antimicrobial properties. Goldenseal root can help upper respiratory infections and common colds. Goldenseal is often paired with echinacea.


· Echinacea could prevent and shorten the duration of the common cold. Viruses that cause the common cold are mostly rhinoviruses, enteroviruses, coronaviruses, adenoviruses, and parainfluenza viruses.


· Ginger contains phenolic compounds, gingerols and shogaols. These compounds have been shown to protect the respiratory, nervous and cardiovascular systems, and have antimicrobial activity.


· Zinc is critical to immune function. Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss, dermatitis, recurrent viral and bacterial infections, and unwarranted immune reactions, like autoimmune diseases. Vegetarians and vegans are more prone to zinc deficiency.
